Brooksby Family Seatbelt Safety Awareness Day

When catastrophic events happen in our family we sanction the day they occur as a family awareness day. We only have two of these days, thank goodness. The first was when my mom fell off a ladder and cracked her head open in several places. Since that day November 4th has been Brooksby Family Ladder Safety Awareness Day. Last December 8th my parents and I were in a car accident and I wasn't wearing my seatbelt and so I was injured the most. So now December 8th is officially Brooksby Family Seatbelt Safety Awareness Day. It even says so on all our family's calendars.

So if you haven't figured it out yet, today is the one year anniversary of the car accident. I just thought we could all reminisce about it and I'd update you on stuff since then...

You can read my original post about the accident here or my six month update here.

I was brought into the hospital on a stretcher in an ambulance. You can see my red hoodie lying around me after it was tragically cut off of me. I was so upset about the hoodie being destroyed but my friends Clark and Daylyn and my sister Brittney and her husband bought me a new one to match it!

The blood blisters on my knuckle was the only blood we saw from the accident.

Lori came to visit me later that morning. She brought my camera and is trying to clean the dirt from it. We eventually got my camera working with only minor permanent damage.

Leaving the hospital with a barf bucket, just in case. I was pretty nauseous.

Lori and Kurt's Idaho wedding reception was that night and I was allowed to go. I look pretty good actually!

I don't remember much about that day. Especially don't remember wearing sneakers to the reception! I'm sure if I wasn't so out of it I would have insisted on high heels.

My mom, Lori and my dad at the end of the party, totally worn out. My mom was dishing out the drugs to my dad and I.

We went back to the crash site to look for more of our stuff and so I could actually see the place.

The posts along the side of the road are still bent where our van rolled over them.

I've included a ton of pictures of the van after the accident because the destruction was so great.

I fractured two of the discs in my back and had to wear a back brace for 3 months. My mom says I'm so cool that only I could make an ugly back brace stylish.

I'm feeling great and have little to no pain! I have no restrictions and can do anything I want.
In the past year I've been camping...

I've ran down the beach looking for dolphins...

I've been camping at the beach...

I've been to concerts...

I've been on road trips...

I've been on day trips...

I've been tarantula hunting...

I've been shotgun shooting...

I've even thrown clay pigeons...

I've been tubing down the river...

I've been on amusement rides.

Thanks to everyone for their concern and prayers and help and for everything! Mm-wah!

I can't believe it's been a year! It seems it went by quickly and slowly all at the same time! I'm so happy you have recovered so well!

What a year can do... I'm really glad you put up all that you have done because it truly showcases how far you've come from such a horrible injury.
